Jupiter Exalted in Cancer: The True Meaning of Abundance and Prosperity

When I first began my studies in Astrology as a preteen, like many of us born under the Uranus/Neptune conjunction did, everything clicked and made sense as if I’d known it before or as if it was the secret unspoken language of the universe. Looking at Rulerships, Exaltations and Falls, the Archetypes all lined up when it came to which planets were comfortable where and why. And yet there was one Exaltation in particular that didn’t quite make sense to me at first and that Exaltation the one astrologers have been looking forward to all year and that is Jupiter in Cancer. Jupiter will enter Cancer on June 9th 2025 and remain there until June 30th of 2026.

Jupiter will make its entrance into Cancer for the first time in 12 years (Jupiter averages around one year in each sign). Jupiter considered the greater Benefic, Benefic literally meaning ‘Good doer’, is  finally going to it’s place of comfort and we will all feel a collective sigh of relief from whatever difficulties Mars in Cancer and the early months of 2025 brought us. When a planet is exalted in a particular sign it is considered to be particularly strong and positive, in exaltation the sign the planet is in is considered to be its home away from home.  Or as the ancient Roman Astrologer Julius Firmicus Maternus put it, “A planet is raised up to the maximum of it’s own natural force”Jupiter the planet of growth, expansion, wisdom, and good fortune, and Cancer the sign of nurturing, emotional depth, home, and the family. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer. At first, to me these two archetypes felt like they weren’t exactly fit for each other. But as I grew older and understood more about what true prosperity really is, not only did it make sense, but it helped me in understanding some fundamental realities and most of all to appreciate what is really important in life.

As time went on and my relationship and knowledge with astrology grew, so grew my understanding and appreciation of Jupiter in Cancer. To understand Jupiter the Benevolent planet in Cancer is to wholly understand the definition of true abundance. ‘Abundance’ and ‘Prosperity’ have become these quite frankly annoying buzz words within the spiritual community and tend to make one more think of ego driven gurus pushing nonsensical  ‘Manifestation’ rhetoric. All it takes is to see a washed up celebrity at the end of the line, addicted to something, and truly unhappy for any normal person to be reminded that endless amounts of money and attention aren’t the answer. In our modern first world most of us have become aware that the majority of the population might be a little ‘out of touch’ with what truly matters. Jupiter in Cancer reminds us of what does. Throw out the materialism and replace it with real emotional depth and connection with others.

From the perspective of the ancients, it’s really a no brainer that Jupiter was exalted in Cancer for many, many reasons. First of all, life was not always guaranteed quite like it is in the modern first world, starting off with the entry way into life, childbirth, which is under the domain of Cancer. Most of the time for women, having a child meant taking a gamble on either your life or theirs. A healthy mother and new born baby is a sacred and precious thing. Babies truly are a blessing, and in a world that was once not concerned with over population, the more life you brought into the world, the more potential and possibility for growth, expansion, and abundance it created. Think of a table filled with loving family members and nourishing food. Think of your refrigerator filled with healthy produce and being meal prepped for the week for yourself and your children. Also, if you have ever struggled as a first time mother with breastfeeding, you understand the incredible gift that is breast milk, and the importance of needing to increase your supply. An endless supply of liquid gold, that’s Jupiter in Cancer. Equally important in the context of what is truly important lies in Cancer as a water sign and its connection to the water in general (Just as Pisces traditional rulership was Jupiter, making complete sense as the ocean was an abundant food source). Clean, fresh water, a necessity of life is just another thing we tend to take for granted. It is also interesting that the first baby conceived via IVF was under a Jupiter in Cancer Transit.

If this picture isn’t literal Jupiter in Cancer vibes…oh lord

As Cancer belongs to the moon, so does it belong to Jupiter. My bright eyed three year old telling me to look up at the moon. Then proceeding to tell me,  ‘The Moon is the Mommy of the Sky’, something that as a mother and astrologer lit me up in ways that words could never describe. If I ever mentioned the archetype of the moon to him, I don’t remember, but some things are just intrinsically human knowledge we are born with and all share.  Creating and enjoying lasting joyful memories, that’s Jupiter in Cancer. There is great loving Mommy energy with Jupiter in Cancer. Who takes care of you when you fall and scrape your knee? Who provides the warm bed, the meal, the embrace? I think we could all agree that our world could use more great loving Mommy energy. This is what I hope this transit will provide us with. I am equally praying (but not holding my breath) for peace in the Middle East as it was during the Jupiter in Cancer Transit of 1978 that the Camp David Accords Peace Agreements were made, resolving Arab-Isreali conflict at the time. Teaching our children to love and be kind to one another so that the possibility of world peace becomes more attainable, that’s Jupiter in Cancer. Maybe someday Jupiter in Cancer will really remind us that our true home (Cancer) can be expanded (Jupiter), to include the entire globe, and to recognize each other as all brothers and sisters of the same big family. At the end of the day, we all share the same home in this solar system.

In the three very different places of the world that I have lived so far with my children, I have noticed an unfortunate theme when we go to play at the park. Parents all glued to their cell phones while their children look desperate to find others to connect with. While it is not my place to judge, my nervous system can hardly handle not seeing both of my children for a second when outside with them, so I couldn’t imagine staying glued to a pointless abyss for minutes. As Neptune has left Pisces and entered Aries, I believe we will begin to hopefully see a shift in this behavioral pattern from parents. With the shadow side of Neptune in Pisces manifesting as a social media addiction, I truly hope that Jupiter’s ingress into Cancer, coinciding with Neptune’s ingress into Aries, that we will see a collective waking up from parents and an increased interest in participating along with them in their games and activities. Think taking a martial arts class alongside your child. And while these two cardinal signs transiting these planets will technically be in square to each other, I do hope that that friction will cause people to begin focusing more on just how precious their time with their children and family is, and how much of it is being wasted ‘doom scrolling’ by many. Jupiter in Cancer brings our focus back to the importance of caring for our loved ones and creating lasting memories.

As my family and I recently made our way overseas to settle into my husbands home town of Florence Italy, nestled with our two children in a one bedroom apartment with my in laws, cozy, grateful, and enjoying each others company, I think of Jupiter in Cancer and the true meaning of abundance. Many families will be considering relocation and the true meaning of home during this transit. They will be thinking about what is really important for their quality of life and health. If there is anything that being a mother has taught me is that true abundance exists when the children are healthy and happy. I used to fret and worry about certain things that after having kids, I wonder why those things ever bothered me at all, and as long as the kids are okay, the worries fade. That is true abundance. Jupiter in Cancer is understanding the difference between a house and a home. It is also in realizing the importance of community, as the moon was traditionally associated with your community. Jupiter in Cancer is recognizing and prioritizing quality of relationships and the inner expansion of our hearts. It’s understanding that to give is to receive, and that there is something so magical about seeing what another needs before they even recognize it themselves, and then providing it for them. Some of the best ways you can utilize this year long transit:

  • Reconnecting with family or ancestral traditions

  • Creating a sanctuary at home

  • Practicing emotional generosity

  • Letting your intuition guide you to your best and most meaningful places in life

Jupiter in Cancer reminds us that the most profound expansion often begins within—the heart, the home, the lineage.
